Docker Toolbox comes with its own “shell” called Docker Quickstart Terminal. It uses Windows’ own command window – which is pretty limited.

If you have Mac OS X 10.10.3 Yosemite or newer, consider using Docker for Mac instead. It runs natively on the Mac, so there is no need for a pre-configured Docker QuickStart shell. It uses xhyve for virtualization, instead of VirutalBox. Full install prerequisites are provided in the Docker for Mac topic in Docker for Mac.

To be able to interact with Docker Toolbox in these alternative command line tools, you can create a simple batch file that drops you into the same Docker shell as the “Docker Quickstart Terminal”:

Step 12: Now Click on the Docker Quickstart terminal tool. Terminal window will get launched and perform few configuration steps. Wait to complete it.
